Assisting GSMA in accessing innovations for digital solutions in the sector of waste management and transport in Sub-Saharan Africa and South/Southeast Asia.
GSMA’s Mobile for Development Utilities Programme (M4D Utilities) Innovation Fund is supporting digital solutions to deliver energy, water and sanitation services for the underserved. GSMA wanted to explore the possibility of expanding its support to the waste management and transport sectors. GSMA retained Rebel for guidance and support on identifying relevant trends and innovations across Sub-Saharan Africa and South/Southeast Asia and shaping their potential value-add.
To uncover trends and innovations in the markets, we conducted market analysis, highlighting specific case studies and potential entrepreneurs in the selected regions. By utilizing our international network and offices, we carried out a series of interviews both with new innovative business ventures and sector-specific stakeholders within governments.
We mapped the challenges and state-of-the-art thinking in each niche and geography. We helped explore and shape potential ways in which GSMA could support new initiatives with a real impact on the underserved – while scaling business initiatives going forward through funding support.
