Proton therapy centre Groningen

Realized in The Netherlands
The UMCG Proton Center is the first center in the Netherlands to offer proton therapy and, in collaboration with the Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology, also treats children with proton therapy.

Challenge

Rebel helped with the tendering of the state-of-the-art proton therapy centre, developing the business case and financing this technically complex object.

Approach

Proton therapy causes less (radiation)damage than conventional photon therapy. Therefor it’s beneficial for patients with cancer near vital body parts like lungs, heart and brains.

Also for children it’s much better, as the chance for cancer (developing years later) caused by the treatment is significantly lower. Hence the collaboration with Princess Maxima Center.
