For the Rebel East Africa office in Nairobi, Kenya, we are looking for a consultant who is passionate about economics, finance and development in Africa.

Who are we?

Rebel is an independent, employee-owned advisory group operating internationally from its home base in Rotterdam (The Netherlands) and offices globally, including Antwerp (Belgium), Jakarta (Indonesia), Johannesburg (South Africa), Manila (Philippines), Nairobi (Kenya) and Washington D.C. (USA).

We started Rebel in 2002 because we wanted to make a positive contribution to the world.. Today, about 200 Rebels are working from offices around the world on projects in socially relevant sectors, including: urban development, infrastructure, mobility and transport, culture, healthcare and energy. We provide financial and strategic advice to the public and private sector including public policy design, economic analysis, financial strategy development, fund design, and transaction advice. At the Rebel East Africa office we are particularly passionate about realizing the potential of Africa’s dynamic people and economies.

We are growing and on the lookout for new Rebels who share our passion. Are you a talented and curious Kenyan with strong qualifications in economics, finance or business, and do you wish to make a real impact?

  • You have a graduate (Master’s) degree in Economics, Finance, Business Administration or similar field;
  • You are passionate about economics, finance and development in the African context;
  • You have excellent research and writing skills, strong data-analysis capabilities, and experience with project management;
  • You have experience with financial modelling or are willing and able to develop yourself in this field;
  • You have excellent English and Swahili communication and writing skills and an ability to communicate at all levels;
  • You are open to learning and have a flexible approach to work;
  • You are comfortable working in a small team and work well in a collaborative environment;
  • You are strongly values-driven, with accountability and integrity being core to your center;
  • You have an ability to solve problems on the basis of conceptual thinking as well as through application of quantitative analysis;
  • You are a proactive self-starter;
  • You have an ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines;
  • You are interested in working at the interface between the public and the private sector;
  • You are willing to travel: this position includes a training program in the Netherlands and frequent travel for assignments in both Kenya and the East African region;

What is your future role about?

This position is for individuals with preferably a number of years of relevant experience, although we will also consider promising starters with some research and/or consulting experience. You will be assigned according to your level of experience and your skill set. As part of a team you will undertake components of strategic consulting assignments for a variety of public and private sector clients. You will work under the guidance of a more senior consultant but we expect you to actively participate in shaping the future of the Nairobi office. Your role will include:

  • Helping to conceptualize projects and provide project management support;
  • Undertaking research, both primary (interviews and surveys) as well as secondary (desktop research, literature reviews etc.);
  • Undertaking data collection, collation and analysis;
  • Supporting and initiating business development in East Africa;
  • Developing proposals for new assignments;
  • Interacting with clients and Rebels in other offices.

Key requirements

  • Kenyan citizenship is a key requirement for this position;
  • Three to five years of experience in a consultancy firm, bank or development finance institution is strongly preferred.
